A politician from Ireland's governing party has claimed that "jumpy" drivers could benefit from having a relaxing alcoholic drink to steady their nerves.
Ireland is in the midst of a national debate over government plans to cut the legal blood alcohol content limit for motorists to 50 mg per 100 ml from 80 mg in an effort to reduce road accidents.Currently 20 members of parliament from Prime Minister Brian Cowen's Fianna Fail party are against lowering the limit which would rule out a traditional Irish pint of Guinness for those driving.
"If drink is such a sedative, it can make people who are jumpy on the road, or nervous, be more relaxed," said Mattie McGrath, Fianna Fail's Tipperary South representative, apparently speaking out in favour of moderated drink driving.
The AA motoring group responded by saying that there was no evidence to back up McGrath’s claim.
"It's an old wives' tale," said Conor Faughnan, AA Director of Policy, adding: "You will get people who'll tell you that smoking is good for you based on a granny who lived to be 95."

Wow that actually makes sense dude!

This is funny. I was helping someone filling out the US immigration application form. One of the question I thought it was aimed at the Irish: "Are you or have you ever been a habitual drunkard?"
I thought it was stupid at the time, but after reading this. I had to agree that this is a valid question especially for the Irish. Can't have drunks enter the US now.
WOW!
People seem to be getting stupider and stupider.

Surely if people are better drivers after a drink or two, they shouldn't ever be on the road in the first place.
Typical crap from our government though.
